‘Comfort kills dreams’: Family remembers Prince Albert soldier who found his calling in uniform
Once told he would never graduate from high school, Pte. Shaun Farrell went on to earn his diploma and fulfil his lifelong dream of becoming a soldier.
On Thursday, the family of the 23-year-old from Prince Albert remembered a young man who refused to let other people’s expectations determine his future, and who found purpose, confidence and belonging in the military.
His mother Patricia, along with her other son, Byron and Roland, Shaun’s father, were supported by other members of the local South African community as they spoke to media about the impact this will have on their family.
“I’m just wondering what my future is going to be like without him in our lives and without him being around,” she said.
