Onion Lake infant death case comes to sudden halt

Apr 5, 2024 | 11:43 AM

A scheduled trial this week for a woman accused of concealing the body of a dead child, was called off.

battlefordsNOW was informed the charge was stayed by the Crown on March 28.

Tashia Turner’s case dates back to Jan. 5, 2022, when Onion Lake RCMP were informed of the sudden death of an infant in the community.

The investigation later determined the death should be investigated by the Major Crimes Unit, who was in turn supported by the North Battleford RCMP Forensics Identification Section.

Turner was subsequently arrested on March 7, 2023, and a not guilty plea had been entered last October.

She was 33-years-old at the time of her arrest.

A stay of proceedings halts prosecution of the case. If the Crown decides to recommence proceedings, they have up to one year to resume the case. Otherwise, it is is considered concluded.
