Meadow Lake softball player earns back-to-back shots at national titles
By the time most athletes finish one national championship, Makenna Dufresne will already be preparing for another.
The 16-year-old Meadow Lake softball player is set to compete at the U17 Canadian Softball Championship in Calgary later this month with the Lloydminster Liners after the Alberta club qualified through provincials. The following weekend, she will suit up for another Alberta team after being selected to compete at the U19 Canadian Softball Championship.
“This is my third time [competing at nationals]. I’m super excited. My team has been doing really good so far this year, and I think we have a really good shot of getting a medal, hopefully at nationals. So I’m really excited for that experience,” Dufresne said.
The Lloydminster Liners earned their national berth after capturing a silver medal at the Alberta U17A provincial championship, qualifying to represent the province as Alberta 2.
