Seven new deaths reported in COVID-19 patients in Saskatchewan, 478 new cases

The provincial government reported another 478 confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total to 69,809 reported cases.

Seven new deaths were also reported today bringing the total Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died to 733 with a case fatality rate of 1.1 per cent.

Of the new cases 362, or 76 per cent are unvaccinated individuals with 99 being under the age of 11.

Of the new cases 181 are located in Northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (25), Far North Central (one), Far North East (29), North West (88), North Central (28), and North East (10).

Less than one-third (31.6 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

Less than one in four (23.5 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 6, a total of 356 individuals are being hospitalized; including 280 inpatient hospitalizations, and 76 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 356 patients, 273 (76.7 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

As of Oct. 5, there are 25 new cases to report today in NITHA communities; 16 (64 per cent) were unvaccinated, three (12 per cent) are partially vaccinated and six (24 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 185 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), five; Far North West, 61; Far North East, 74; North Central, 29; and North East, 16; 5934 cases (96 per cent) have recovered, and seven people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) is reporting two new CoVID-19 cases in Fond-Du-Lac on Oct. 5. Total active cases in the AHA region is now six; four in FDL and one in Black Lake. More than 50 per cent of new cases since last weekend have been noted to be children.

“Given that some of the new cases seem to be in connection with recent travels, we strongly recommend that community members should avoid non-essential travels this time,” stated executive director of Primary Health Care for AHA, Taiwo Olubanwo.
