SIRT begins investigation into Makwa Sahgaiehcan arrest
The actions of RCMP officers involved in the arrests of two wanted men, and a woman who was in a home with them, are now under investigation by Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT).
SIRT said RCMP notified the agency just after 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, and the request was accepted.
“While the arrest did not result in serious injuries within the meaning of The Police Act, 1990, SIRT’s Civilian Executive Director accepted the notification as within SIRT’s public interest mandate and directed an investigation by SIRT,” said the police watchdog in a news release issued Thursday morning.
Members of the Loon Lake RCMP went to a home on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation shortly after 5 a.m. on July 27 to arrest a man with outstanding warrants.
