‘Iron sharpens iron’: Spartans find progress despite 71-0 loss to start season
A 71-0 loss was not the home opener the Carpenter High School Spartans wanted, but head coach Coleton Ethier says the result came with signs that his young football program is moving forward.
The Spartans fell to the Bonnyville Voyageurs on Saturday, a team that finished as Alberta’s provincial runner-up last season.
“I still think we did some good things,” Ethier said.
Bonnyville took control early after Carpenter was forced to punt on its opening possession. The Voyageurs returned the punt for a touchdown, a play Ethier said shifted the momentum in their favour.
